Forte Migration
With Sun Microsystems’ announcement that all support for Forte/UDS applications will be discontinued by April 2009, companies are seeking an efficient, proven approach to transform legacy applications to actively supported platforms like Java or .Net.
As Gartner described the situation, “Risk-averse customers should immediately implement a transition strategy that includes a phased retirement plan for some UDS applications, coupled with redesign/rewrite and (semi)automated conversion of others.”
SoftSol has developed a proprietary conversion tool to maximize the speed and accuracy of the modernization process. This tool automatically converts up to 99% of the Forte code to either a Java/J2EE or .NET environment. This technology, combined with our expert modernization team, has positioned SoftSol as the leader in Forte migration projects.
SoftSol’s systematic approach has succeeded in both the public and private sectors. Some of the diverse customers we’ve served include ArcelorMittal, Department of Defense, CalPERS, HBO, Superior Court of California, and Telekurs Financial. Projects have ranged in size from approximately 800,000 to over 10 million lines of code.

“This application conversion was absolutely essential to maintain our level of customer service, and we couldn't afford any cost or schedule over-runs. This 45 man-year project was accomplished on time and on budget, with no customer-visible hiccups. SoftSol’s international project team worked very well for us.”
